Dear Jane, Suffering From PMS or Something Worse?
I thought that with getting older my PMS would taper off, but lately, it seems to be getting worse. Like many women, I’ve never loved being visited by Aunt Flow because she brings the ever-looming threat of ruining my favorite pair of white jeans or new silk sheets every 3 to 4 weeks.
But my disdain for stained undies and sheets pales in comparison to the crimpling pain of the cramps and bloating caused by my period. My mood swings are also at an all-time high along with hormonal pimples and zits to match.
I heard that getting on the pill can help to alleviate some of the discomfort and the heaviness of my periods, I’m fearful of gaining weight as a side effect.
My main concern is that there’s something seriously wrong with me that goes beyond just regular bleeding, bloating, and cramping. What should I do?

Dear Painfully PMSing,
I hear ya, sis. I hate it when Aunt Flow comes to visit too, but there are a few things that we can do to take our power and proclaim, “Not this month!”
The first thing I would do is schedule an appointment with your OB-Gyn to get a check-up just to make sure that everything’s healthy and working properly. I’m sure you’re fine, but if you’re feeling off and your PMS symptoms are worsening, then it’s best to go to the doctor and get some labs.
Don’t forget to be honest with your doctor and let him or her know exactly what you’ve been going through. There’s no shame in seeking help with your period and sexual reproductive organs, so make sure that you have a doctor that’s component, caring, compassionate, and that you can trust.
After that, I would take advantage of our Betoken PMS Cream. It quickly and effectively relieves the pain caused by period cramps, and best of all, it’s all-natural and has a soothing smell.
When you’re cramping and not feeling well, then use the PMS + Chill duo that includes the Hello Mellow capsules and the Not This Month PMS cream.
The capsules may help you to unwind, relax, and relieve any tension and anxiety when you feel those mood swings coming on.
The soothing PMS cream may help to alleviate the pain from your period cramps and when you really need to take care of yourself, soak in a CBD-infused hot bath using the Go Away, I’m Fizzy CBD bath bomb.
Last but not least, don’t forget to ask your doctor about which forms of birth control would be the best for you if you’re fearful of gaining weight. It might not be a side effect for all forms of the pill or the water weight gain might go away over time. Don’t let the fear of a few pounds stop you from getting the help you need with your pain, bloating, and mood swings.
Jane is the fictional heroine of the Betoken lifestyle blog, Good For Jane. Think of Jane as your virtual BFF. She lives a healthy lifestyle, but not like, over the top. When it’s not a pandemic, she loves hanging out with her friends, dating, and exercising in public. Throughout the pandemic she has baked her fair share of sourdoughs, gotten more than her fair share of takeout to “support her local restaurants”, ordered wine online and taken plenty of CBD to keep the anxiety at bay.

Dear Jane, I am officially a meme. You know the ones about dodging Covid? Somehow, despite numerous close encounters and look-a-like symptoms, I haven't had Covid yet. I know so many people that have, I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority in my friend group. Of...
Dear Jane, As I coast well into my 30's, my days of hard charging and partying on the weekends are behind me. Of course I know this makes sense, and I couldn't party now even if I wanted to (the multi-day hangovers kill me!) but I am kind of at a loss as to what to...
Dear Jane, I'm trying not to bite off more than I can chew this New Year. I want to start a new wellness routine, but I don't want to set myself up for failure. For the past few years I have made New Years Resolutions, but I only find myself able to stick to them for...
