Dear Jane, Help! I need a new self-care routine!

Dear Jane, 

As I put my kids on the bus this morning for the first day of school I realized it is the first day in 18 months that I actually have time to myself. I honestly didn’t even know what to do! 

I feel like my self-care routine hasn’t been upgraded in a decade, and what I did for myself in my 20’s is not what I need to be doing now, in my late 30’s. 

How can I upgrade my self-care routine, in a very limited amount of time that I have to myself, and without breaking the bank?

So, how do you upgrade your self-care routine that falls somewhere between Goop-worthy and hanging on by a thread? Well, first you’ll want to get yourself some big girl self-care products!. 

Dear Ready to Take Care, 

First, how good did it feel to put those kiddos on the bus today?! It has been such a long time coming, and although things are not perfect, I bet you feel awesome knowing that they are taken care of and out of the house. 

Now is a GREAT time to start a new self-care routine, and I totally understand wanting to do it on a budget, and without getting too “Goop” about it, if you know what I mean.

So, how do you upgrade your self-care routine that falls somewhere between Goop-worthy and hanging on by a thread? Well, first you’ll want to get yourself some big girl self-care products! This is the perfect time to start a Hello Mellow routine, which can help take the edge off of any back-to-school, new routine stress.* 

I often suggest people start journaling when they are starting with Hello Mellow. This doesn’t need to be anything “dear diary” style, it’s more just jotting down daily thoughts. Write down things that caused stress, and your reaction to the stressful event. Keep doing this daily, and look back at your reactions over the course of a month towards the end of your jar. Chances are, your reaction has changed for the better (and if that’s the case, maybe it’s time for a refill ;)) 

After you’ve taken care of basics, it’s time to treat yourself to a self-care day hour! This week while the kids are at school, or at the very least this weekend, carve out an hour for yourself. That’s it! Just one hour. We know you don’t have time for a full day, but it’s time to give yourself an hour. Put on some eye gels and a lip mask. Eye gels reduce puffiness and brighten your eyes. Lip masks plump lips and tighten fine lines.

While these work their magic, turn on the bath and throw in one of Betoken’s Go Away, I’m Fizzy bath bombs. Give yourself 20 minutes to relax and unwind! When you get out, you’ll not only feel relaxed but also moisturized and silky smooth. Find your favorite facial oil, and work it into your face with our Rose Quartz or Opal Gua Sha! Repeat this as frequently as weekly, but at the very least, monthly! It’s time to start caring for you
